Things you should check before signing a contract

There are also some important things you should check into before signing a contract with any pool builder. First you should check with the Better Business Bureau for complaints and a general reputation. Also you can verify their status with the National Pool and Spa Institute. While not all pool builders are a member with NPSI, it can provide additional references and help aid in your decision
What to look for in a Pool Builder

Selecting the right inground swimming pool builder should not be a task you take lightly. You should find someone you can trust and have compatible ideals with. One of the best ways to find the builder is perhaps the most obvious - through word of mouth. You should first talk with friends and neighbors, find out who they used. Ask them about their experience and if they would ever use the builder again.

Fiberglass Inground Swimming Pools

The Fiberglass pool is a fiberglass shell that is carried to your location. A hole is dug similarly to the vinyl inground pool and then the shell is lowered in to place. Fiberglass pools usually have a similar warranty to the vinyl inground pools and are also very popular with residential pool builders.

They generally cost 5000-10000 more for a similar sized pool then the vinyl inground. The greatest advantage is that they do not have a liner that needs to be replaced every decade. When selecting a fiberglass builder you should be sure he has great experience as a fiberglass pool can be easy to set wrong and have trouble with cracks later in life if done wrong.

Concrete or Gunite Swimming Pools

Another very popular choice for inground swimming pools is that of Gunite (also sometimes called concrete) pools. Gunite pools are very popular for commercial settings or elaborate large residential pools. Gunite is generally significantly more expensive then that of vinyl or fiberglass inground pools.
Many people prefer gunite because of the idea that is a perminant concrete structure on the property. Although these days many fiberglass and vinyl pools have lifetime warrenties (which may mean 25-100 years and should be checked into before buying).

Vinyl Inground Swimming Pools

Vinyl Inground Swimming Pools are one of the most commonly built inground swimming pools for residential purposes. Vinyl Pools are not completely made of vinyl, rather they have an inside liner made of vinyl. The inside liners can be a variety of different patterns and allow for replacement if torn or damaged.
Liners generally last 7-10 years depending on the chemicals used and quality of liner material. The thicker the liner the more likely it is to last through wear and tear.
